FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

· How do I know whether I need a project or a retainer?

If your goals are defined—like a brand build, website copy, pitch deck, or specific deliverables—a project is best.  If your needs evolve or you want ongoing strategy, collaboration, and consistent support, a retainer is the better fit.

· What’s included in a project?

Each project begins with a discovery phase where I assess your needs and outline a clear scope, timeline, and deliverables. You’ll receive a full proposal and all agreed-upon deliverables for one set price.

· What is the minimum for project-based work?

Projects require a 10-hour minimum, even for smaller initiatives, to ensure I can deliver meaningful progress and strong outcomes.

· How does project payment work?

Projects are billed 50% upfront to reserve your time in my calendar, and 50% at completion upon delivery of final files.

· Do projects have a set timeline?

Yes. We’ll agree on a timeline upfront based on your goals, the project’s depth, and my current availability. This keeps everything clear, structured, and on track.

· What’s included in a retainer?

Retainers include 20 hours of my time per month, to be used anytime within a 30-day period. This covers strategy, design direction, brand work, meetings, collaboration, and ongoing guidance.  Retainers are due in full, up-front, each month.

· What happens if I need more than 20 hours?

Any hours beyond the included 20 are billed at my standard hourly rate, and I’ll always confirm before additional hours are used.

· Do unused retainer hours roll over?

No. Retainers are based on monthly availability, priority access, and ongoing momentum, so hours must be used within the calendar month.

· Can I switch from a project to a retainer (or vice versa)?

Absolutely. Most clients begin with a project and move into a retainer for ongoing support. You can also start with a retainer if your needs are open-ended.

· Do retainer clients get priority?

Yes. Retainer clients receive priority scheduling, faster turnaround, and guaranteed monthly access to my time.

· Will you work with our team and outside vendors?

Yes, in many cases. I often serve as a fractional member of your team, collaborating with internal staff, designers, developers, agencies, and vendors as needed. If you’d like me to present on behalf of your company or be publicly represented as part of your team, we’ll establish a clear, mutual understanding of that role. This level of involvement requires an ongoing retainer to maintain continuity, alignment, and appropriate use of my likeness and professional representation.

· What if I need to pause or cancel?

Pauses or cancellations require advance notice, to the best of your ability. Project deposits and paid retainers are non-refundable once time has been reserved, but may be rescheduled within the quarter.  Retainers renew monthly and are invoiced before charged.  Please provide written notice prior to the next cycle.

· Do you offer rush timelines?

In some cases, yes. Expedited timelines may incur a rush fee depending on my workload and the scope of the project.

· What if my project grows or changes?

If the scope expands beyond what was originally agreed upon, we’ll discuss and adjust the pricing, hours, or timeline before proceeding—no surprises.

· Why can’t we just work hourly?

I structure my work with project minimums and retainers because it leads to higher level work and better outcomes for both of us.  It allows me to:

— Fully commit to your work instead of squeezing you in between other tasks

— Plan my calendar around your needs

— Think proactively and strategically, not just reactively

You still still receive transparency around time, but the structure ensures we can actually accomplish your goals.

· Will I receive all the files from the projects you work on for me?

Yes—you’ll receive all final project files and deliverables we’ve agreed upon in your proposal.

If you know you’ll need specific file types (for example: editable design/source files for your internal team or another agency), we’ll outline that upfront in the proposal.
